No. Bardo, Visions, Phason and Rattle each include a standalone Mac app: open the app and use it without a DAW. Every download also includes VST3 and Audio Unit plugins for DAWs that support those formats, such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Bitwig, Reaper, FL Studio and Studio One. Both ways of working are included in the same licence and free trial.
What is Deep Trip?
Deep Trip is an independent maker of audio plugins for Mac. It builds instruments that do something unusual rather than another compressor, EQ or subtractive synth. Four are out now: Bardo, Deep Trip Visions, Phason and Rattle.
What kind of plugins does Deep Trip make?
Instruments, not utilities. The common thread is starting from something nobody planned to be musical — a crystal, a chain of beads, an empty session — and turning it into something playable. Deep Trip does not make mixing tools, channel strips or emulations of classic hardware.
Who is Deep Trip for?
Producers who get stuck staring at an empty session, and anyone who would rather begin with something strange than with a factory preset. It is aimed at people who like being surprised by their own source material.

Will there be more Deep Trip instruments?
Yes. Deep Trip is the name on a line of instruments, not a single product. Bardo, Visions, Phason and Rattle are the first four; the next ones are announced on deept.rip.
Does Deep Trip make plugins for Windows?
No. Deep Trip plugins run only on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 or later, as VST3, Audio Unit and a standalone app. There is no Windows, Linux or Intel Mac build.

Four, all out now. Bardo ($39 at launch, then $79) is an endless techno generator. Deep Trip Visions ($19 at launch, then $29) is a music-reactive visualizer you put on any track. How is Deep Trip different from other plugin developers?
Most developers compete on doing a known job better — a cleaner EQ, a warmer saturator, a more accurate emulation. Deep Trip only ships instruments that have no obvious equivalent, and everything runs locally with no account and no cloud service.
Is there a Deep Trip bundle?
Yes. The Deep Trip Bundle is all four instruments — Bardo, Deep Trip Visions, Phason and Rattle — under one licence key. It costs $69 at launch (until 31 December 2026), then $129. Buy it on deept.rip/bundle and the key arrives by email right after payment.
How much do I save with the Deep Trip Bundle?
Bought one by one, all four cost $92 at launch and $177 after: Bardo, Phason and Rattle at their own prices, with Visions already included in a Bardo key. The bundle is $69 and then $129, so it saves $23 at launch and $48 after.
How does the Deep Trip Bundle key work?
One key activates every Deep Trip instrument. Open any of them, choose Activate and paste the bundle key. It works on up to 3 of your Macs, and all four instruments on one Mac use one of those three places. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Is there a free trial of the bundle?
Each instrument in the bundle has its own 7-day free trial, started from inside that instrument with your email. The bundle itself has no separate trial: try the ones you want, then buy the bundle key to unlock all four.
Is there a free trial?
Yes, for every Deep Trip plugin. Start the trial with your email from inside the plugin and you get the full instrument for 7 days on one Mac. No card is asked for. When the trial ends, buy a key to keep using it; your projects stay where they are.
What does the licence cover?
One key is yours for good and activates its instrument on up to 3 of your Macs. To move to a new one, free an old one from the Activate window and use the key there. It is a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
Why are prices lower now and higher later?
Deep Trip instruments launch at a lower price until 31 December 2026: Bardo $39 (then $79), Visions $19 (then $29), Phason $29 (then $59), Rattle $24 (then $39), and the bundle of all four $69 (then $129). A key bought at the launch price is the same full licence.
What happens on 1 January 2027?
The launch prices end and the regular prices apply. Keys bought before that keep working exactly the same, with no expiry.
Will it run on my Intel Mac?
No. On Mac, Deep Trip plugins are built only for Apple Silicon. On an Intel Mac they will not install or load, and there is no Rosetta path, because the builds are arm64 only.
How do I know which Mac I have?
Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If the chip line starts with Apple M, Deep Trip plugins run. If it names an Intel processor, they do not.
Is there a Windows version?
No. Deep Trip plugins run only on Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
Which DAWs work with Deep Trip plugins?
Any host that loads VST3 or Audio Unit plugins, including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Bitwig, Reaper, FL Studio and Studio One — natively on an Apple Silicon Mac. Each download also includes a standalone Mac app, so no DAW is required.
Where do I download Deep Trip plugins?
On deept.rip: every product page has a Download free trial button for Mac. Open the installer, start the 7-day trial with your email from inside the plugin, and buy a key on the same page when you want to keep it.
Do Deep Trip plugins work offline?
Yes, after activation and any required shared content download. Bardo downloads its voice and text models once from deept.rip through Deep Trip Setup; the same files are reused by other Deep Trip instruments. Phason, Rattle and Visions need no model download. Paid licences refresh automatically about every 7 days while online and carry a 60-day offline token. A trial ends after 7 days. Audio processing and visuals run on your Mac; activation, updates and optional usage reports need a connection.
Can I use what I make commercially?
Yes. What you make with Deep Trip instruments is yours; they add no claim to your music.
Can I get the source code?
No. Deep Trip plugins are not open source, whether you are on the trial or own a key.
Is there a demo video?
Not published yet. The interface screenshots on deept.rip are the real plugins, and the audio demos on the Bardo, Phason and Rattle pages were played by the plugins themselves.
Do I need an account?
No account and no login. You download the installer from deept.rip, start the trial with an email address, and a purchased key is pasted into the Activate window once — that is all.
What happens to my email address?
If you joined the mailing list, it is stored so you can be told when a new build ships. If you start a trial or buy a key, it is also stored with your licence so the key can be delivered and re-sent. It is not sold. Payment and email providers process the details needed to complete your purchase and deliver your key. Marketing subscriptions can be cancelled without deleting your licence. Is the plugin code-signed and notarized?
Yes. Every installer and plugin is signed with the Developer ID of Pattern Void LLC and notarized by Apple. macOS may still ask you to confirm opening a downloaded application.

What does Bardo generate?
Dark, hypnotic, driving techno in nine layers: kick, bass, metal, hats, percussion, fx, voice, synth, sub. Each track is built from long phrases that grow and fall away, and the next track is written while the current one plays, then mixed in over its last bars like a DJ would.
Can I edit what Bardo makes?
Yes. All nine layers sit in one shared sequencer: open a clip and change it, mute a layer, and export the mix or every layer as its own stem.

Does Visions change my sound?
No. The audio passes through untouched. Visions only listens: it hears the kick, bass, snare, hats, leads and air separately and drives the picture from them.
Do I need Visions if I buy Bardo?
No. Bardo has the visualizers built in, and its key unlocks Visions too, so you can put the visuals on any other track in your session at no extra cost.
What is Deep Trip Phason?
Deep Trip Phason is a Mac synthesizer with a unique quasicrystal synthesis method. Its notes are vibrating crystals: their overtones break into shimmering clusters, and tones at the crystal’s edges glide through the gaps as the pattern turns. A second material, Breather, lets how hard you play move the pitch and the colour. It costs $29 at launch (until 31 December 2026), then $59, with a 7-day free trial.

How is Phason different from other synthesizers?
Most synths start from oscillators or recordings. In Phason every note is a small vibrating object, a chain of weights and springs, and the knobs change the object itself. In its Crystal material that chain is a quasicrystal, so the overtones fall into clusters with gaps between them and edge tones glide through the gaps as the pattern turns. Phason’s unique synthesis method brings quasicrystal spectral gaps, topological edge tones and nonlinear breathers together in one playable instrument.
What is a quasicrystal, and why does it sound different?
A quasicrystal is a pattern that is perfectly ordered but never repeats exactly, like a Penrose tiling. When the springs of a vibrating chain follow such a pattern, its overtones stop forming an even ladder and gather into shimmering clusters separated by silent gaps. Physicists draw that family of spectra as the Hofstadter butterfly; Phason shows it live in the centre of the plugin.
What does the Breather material do?
Breather makes the chain nonlinear: its springs stiffen or soften as they move. A hit then gathers into a knot of energy that stays in one place and breathes, a breather in physicists’ terms. How hard you play changes not only the volume but the pitch and the colour, as with a real struck object. Pitch Lock keeps notes in tune when you want them to be.
Does Phason use samples or wavetables?
No. There are no samples, wavetables or oscillators inside. Every sound is the vibration of the modelled object, worked out as you play.
What is Tame in Phason and Rattle?
A built-in safeguard against the main problem of raw physical synthesis: overtones piling up into piercing, ear-tiring spots. Tame finds those spots by itself and softens them, with no setup. You can turn it up, down or off. Rattle defaults to zero to preserve attack and character; Phason keeps its existing default.
What is Deep Trip Rattle?
Deep Trip Rattle is a Mac drum machine with a unique bead-chain synthesis method. Its drums are chains of beads: squeezed beads ring like tuned drums, loose ones clatter, and harder hits run faster and higher. It plays 790 grooves in 50 families built from real drummer patterns and can play every bar anew. It costs $24 at launch (until 31 December 2026), then $39, with a 7-day free trial.

How does Rattle make its drums without samples?
Each drum is a chain of beads between two walls. A striker hits the first bead, the beads knock into each other, and the sound is the chain pushing on the walls. Squeezed beads ring like a tuned drum; loose beads have no ordinary speed of sound, so a hit travels as a single wave whose speed grows with its force and breaks into a clatter. Every hit is worked out fresh, so no two are identical.
Where do Rattle’s grooves come from?
790 grooves in 50 families are built from 158 drummer-derived patterns and four rhythmic transformations: Offbeat, Interlock, Turnaround and Broken. Feel keeps the source timing and dynamics; Alive varies every bar. Edit any hit in the grid, use left/right for variations and up/down for families, then drag the groove into your DAW as an 8-bar MIDI clip.
Can I play Rattle from my own MIDI?
Yes. Standard drum notes play the seven drums: 36 kick, 38 snare, 42 hat, 46 open hat, 45 tom, 49 crash and 51 ride. Inside a DAW the built-in grooves follow the session tempo and transport.
Is Rattle unique?
Yes. Rattle has a unique bead-chain synthesis method: each of its seven drums is a modelled granular chain. Pressure, bead weights and striker force shape every hit, from tuned ringing to loose clatter. Its 790 grooves in 50 families carry drummer-derived timing and dynamics into that physical sound engine.
