- What is Deep Trip?
- Deep Trip is an independent maker of audio plugins for Apple Silicon Macs. It builds instruments that do something unusual rather than another compressor, EQ or subtractive synth. Its first instrument is Apophene, and more are planned under the same name.
- What kind of plugins does Deep Trip make?
- Instruments, not utilities. The common thread is starting from material nobody planned to be musical — a video, a field recording, a voice note — and turning it into something playable. Deep Trip does not make mixing tools, channel strips or emulations of classic hardware.
- Who is Deep Trip for?
- Producers who get stuck staring at an empty session, and anyone who would rather begin with something strange than with a factory preset. It is aimed at people who like being surprised by their own source material.
- What has Deep Trip released?
- Apophene is the first instrument. It turns any video or audio file into a playable kit and a genre-true track, with 25 audio-reactive visualizers. It has not shipped publicly yet; deept.rip collects email addresses and mails the link on release day.
- Will there be more Deep Trip instruments?
- Yes. Deep Trip is the name on a line of instruments, not a single product. Apophene is the first; the next ones are announced to the mailing list first.
- Does Deep Trip make plugins for Windows?
- No. Everything is built natively for Apple Silicon Macs — VST3, Audio Unit and standalone. There is no Windows, Linux or Intel Mac build and none is announced.
- Who is behind Deep Trip?

- How is Deep Trip different from other plugin developers?
- Most developers compete on doing a known job better — a cleaner EQ, a warmer saturator, a more accurate emulation. Deep Trip only ships instruments that have no obvious equivalent, and everything runs locally with no account, no cloud service and no licence manager.
- How much does Apophene cost?
- Nothing until 31 October 2026. Apophene is being given away for the launch of Deep Trip; after that date it costs $4.20. It has not shipped yet, so the way to get it free is to leave your email and wait for the link. A copy taken while it is free stays free for good.
- What does Apophene actually do?
- You drop in a video or an audio file. Apophene analyses it, cuts the interesting moments into playable slices, sorts them into kick, snare, hat, bass, chord and texture roles, and then arranges a full track in the genre you pick. You keep every part editable afterwards.
- Which Macs does it run on?
- Apple Silicon Macs only — any Mac with an Apple M chip. It installs as a VST3 plugin, an Audio Unit and a standalone application. There is no Intel Mac, Windows or Linux build, so an older Mac with an Intel processor will not run it.
- Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
- No. All analysis and synthesis run locally on your machine. Apophene has no cloud service and works with no internet connection.
- How do I get the download link?
- Apophene has not shipped yet, so there is nothing to download today. Leave your email on deept.rip and the link is sent to that address from no-reply@deept.rip the day the first build is ready. That is the only thing the list is used for.
- Does it have a visualizer?
- It has 25 of them, all driven by the parts of your track. The Living face is a real-time 3D head whose jaw, blinks and expression follow the drums, bass and leads; the other twenty-four are fractal dives, kaleidoscopes, tunnels, reaction-diffusion skins, oscilloscopes and stranger scenes. Stay on one, cycle them, or let the next arrive at random.
- Is Apophene really free, or free-to-try?
- Really free until 31 October 2026. The download is the full instrument: no unlockable version, no watermark on the audio, no export limit and no timer that switches it off. After the promotion ends it becomes a $4.20 purchase, but a copy you already have keeps working.
- Why is it free right now?
- Apophene is the first instrument Deep Trip has released, and giving it away for the first weeks is how it gets played and talked about. The promotion runs until 31 October 2026; after that it is $4.20.
- Will it run on my Intel Mac?
- No. Apophene is built only for Apple Silicon. On an Intel Mac it will not install or load, and there is no Rosetta path, because the plugin ships as an arm64 binary only.
- How do I know which Mac I have?
- Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. If the chip line starts with Apple M, Apophene runs. If it names an Intel processor, it does not.
- When does Apophene come out?
- No date has been announced. It ships when the build is signed and ready, and everyone on the list is emailed the same day. Nothing else is sent to that address.
- What happens on 1 November 2026?
- Apophene goes on sale at $4.20. Nothing changes for anyone who already downloaded it: the copy you have keeps working, with no licence check and no expiry.
- Do I need an account?
- No account, no login and no licence manager. You give an email address to receive the download link, and that is the only step.
- What happens to my email address?
- It is stored so the download link can be sent and so you can be told when a new build ships. It is not sold or shared. Every email carries an unsubscribe link that deletes you from the mailing list.
- Is Apophene a synthesizer or a sampler?
- Both. The source material is sampled from your file, but the pads, bass, acid, sub and lead voices are synthesised and pitched, so the result is not just chopped playback.
- What file types can I feed it?
- Video and audio containers that macOS can decode, including MP4, MOV, WAV, AIFF, MP3 and M4A. Video is read through AVFoundation; only the audio track is analysed.
- Which genres does it generate?
- Thirteen: Psychill, Dub techno, Deep house, Tech house, UK garage, Future garage, Breaks, Trap, Witch house, Reggaeton, Footwork, Downtempo, Funk. Each genre is a grammar — tempo range, rhythm patterns, section arc and mixing behaviour — not a preset pack.
- Which visualizers are included?
- All 25 ship with the plugin: Living face, Fractal kaleidoscope, Third eye, Aurora horizon, Infinite bulb, Dividing cells, Chladni plate, Chrome metaballs, Datamosh glitch, Hex tunnel, Hyperbolic tiling, Hypercube dive, Hyperspace warp, Ink in water, Julia descent, LED tunnel, Lissajous scope, Liquid horizon, Neon tube tunnel, Op-art corridor, Plasma abyss, Shacklobos, Spectrum hoops, Synthwave grid, Turing skin. Each one reads the same musical parts the track is built from, so the visuals move with the mix rather than with a generic level meter.
- Can the visualizer run full screen?
- Yes. Hide the interface and the visualizer fills the window, in the plugin and in the standalone app alike.
- Can I edit what it generates?
- Yes. The generated arrangement is a normal sequencer view with sections, phrases, per-lane filters and sends. You can move, mute, retune and replace anything.
- What can I export?
- A full WAV mixdown, separate stems, a MIDI file of the arrangement, and the sliced kit itself for use in any other sampler.
- Does it sync to my DAW?
- Yes. As VST3 or AU it follows host tempo and transport. The standalone app runs on its own clock.
- Which DAWs work with it?
- Any macOS host that loads VST3 or Audio Unit plugins, including Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Bitwig, Reaper, FL Studio and Studio One — running natively on an Apple Silicon Mac.
- Does it use AI?
- It uses on-device machine listening — onset detection, spectral feature extraction and a sound classifier — to decide what each slice is. There is no generative AI service, no prompt box and no network call.
- Is there a Windows version?
- Not today. Apophene is built for Apple Silicon Macs and there is no announced Windows or Intel build.
- Is Apophene released yet?
- Not yet. The instrument is built and running, but the first public build is still being prepared for distribution. deept.rip collects email addresses so the link goes out the moment it is ready — no release date has been promised.
- Is the plugin code-signed and notarized?
- The public build will be signed and notarized before it is distributed. Until that is in place nothing is offered for download.
- How large is the download?
- Not published yet. The figure goes here once the first build is final.
- Can I use the output commercially?
- What you put in is yours, and what comes out is yours. Apophene adds no claim to your music. You are responsible for holding the rights to the source video or audio you feed it.
- Does it work offline?
- Completely. Nothing about the instrument requires a connection once it is installed.
- What is apophenia?
- Apophenia is the tendency to perceive meaningful connections between unrelated things. The instrument is named after it because it finds musical structure in material that was never meant to be music.
- What is Deep Trip?
- Deep Trip is the instrument line. Apophene is the first instrument in it. More are planned under the same name.
- Who is Pattern Void?

- How is Apophene different from a loop pack?
- A loop pack gives you somebody else’s material. Apophene builds the material from a file you chose, so two people starting from different videos never get the same kit.
- How is it different from a normal sampler?
- A sampler waits for you to find and map the slices. Apophene does the finding, the role assignment and the first arrangement, then hands you a session you can argue with.
- How is it different from AI music generators?
- Generators produce a finished audio file from a text prompt on somebody’s server. Apophene produces an editable session on your machine from material you supplied, and never sends anything anywhere.
- Who is Apophene not for?
- If you want a one-click finished song with no editing, or you work on Windows, or you need an Intel Mac build, this is not your tool.
- How do I report a bug or ask something?
- Email info@deept.rip. It is read by the people who build it.
- Will there be updates?
- Yes. Everyone on the list is emailed when a new build ships.
- Can I get the source code?
- No. Apophene is not open source, whether you take it during the free promotion or buy it later.
